What is a prog/power metal album without an absolutely catchy, stompy anthem to headbang to? “Sons of Veles” is that - and is absolutely going to be our new favourite track to play live, with its raw, upbeat energy and killer sing-along chorus sure to make you ride out at full pace onto the Russian steppe and howl out battlecries to Veles, god of war.

We wanted to fill this track with Eastern European musical and melodic cues, similar to “Hiraeth”, and this shows up in the chorus, whereas the whistling licks throughout add a drunken Cossack recklessness to the track. All in all, THE Red Cain drunken party song!

Within the album, “Sons of Veles” is the final charge of Mstislav and his varyags against the Lovecraftian terrors arrayed before them. Riding to their deaths, with only glory and bloodlust in their veins, with all of Russia at their backs, the varyags remember who they are, the lives others have laid down for the Sun, and revel in their camaraderie and their mark on history - be it in death or victory.
